The Craig City Council has decided to draft a resolution against Amendment 69. The controversial amendment, which will be voted on in the November election, would implement a state-run, taxpayer funded, single payer health care system in Colorado. According to Craig Mayor Ray Beck, the council has a fiduciary responsibility to educate themselves and the community on amendments like this that would have a large effect on the area if passed. The City council agreed, stating among other things, there are too many unanswered questions about the amendment. The council will join Mesa and Routt Counties, Club 20, The Associated Governments of Northwest Colorado, The Colorado Municipal League and former Colorado Governor Bill Ritter in speaking out against the bill. Beck says that the council will have the formal resolution drafted and ready for a vote by their next meeting.
