Congress To Get Power Over Coal Moratoriums?

Wyoming US Congresswoman Liz Cheney has introduced legislation that would give Congress final control over future coal moratoriums in the US. This legislation could help continue President Trump’s crusade against regulations contained within the Obama administrations, Clean Power Plan. Coal developments were put on hold during the Obama administration to allow the interior department to explore the national coal royalty policy. New Interior secretary Ryan Zinke says his agency will now use a committee to review royalties, instead of conducting a department wide assessment. While the coal moratorium of the Obama administration was heavily politicized, experts tend to agree that it had little impact on the coal industry itself. Interior Secretary Zinke has admitted that coal still faces an uphill battle because of market influences like cheap natural gas.
