Commissioners Approve ColoWyo’s Collom Pit

The Moffat County Commissioners amended the conditional use permit for the ColoWyo mine at their meeting yesterday, which will allow the company to move forward with developing and mining the Collom pit.  The Collom expansion was approved by the federal government in January of this year following a lengthy environmental review process by the Office of Surface Mining and Reclamation. The expansion will add 28 acres to the current lease, and will allow access to an additional 79 million tons of federal coal. The Collom expansion will help preserve hundreds of coal and power plant jobs in the area.
