Comment On Wyoming Wild Horse Gathering

The Bureau of Land Management Rawlins and Lander field offices are asking for public comment on a revised environmental assessment, analyzing a proposed wild horse gathering project in the Red Desert Wild Horse Herd Management Area Complex. The Red Desert Complex includes the Antelope Hills, Crooks Mountain, Green Mountain, Lost Creek and Stewart Creek herd management areas, and is located in Sweetwater, Carbon, Fremont and Natrona counties. An environmental assessment for the project was originally conducted in 2015, but a court ruled further analysis on the potential impact gathering the horses may have on a historically significant gene that exists in some wild horses within the complex. The revised EA specifically addresses this issue and the public is asked to keep comments to the revision only. Original comments received during the 2015 EA do not need to be resubmitted. Comments on the Environmental Assessment are due by June 5th they can be emailed to To view the environmental assessment, click here.
