Coalition To Protest Coal Regulations

war on coal shirtA coalition of Northwest Colorado residents will be joining others from across the state in Grand Junction next week to protest the Interior Departments moratorium on coal leases for federal land, and its attempt to hinder existing mine operations through increased royalties on production. Members from the Craig Chamber of Commerce, Craig and Moffat County Economic Development Partnership, and elected officials from Moffat County will join a coalition of citizens, miners and other government officials to comment on the regulations. The coalition believes that it is time to end the war on coal, and realize how important coal mining jobs are to local economies. They believe that the coal lease moratorium imposed by the department of interior will have a “chilling effect on rural Colorado and the western United States.” The BLM hearing will be held June 23rd, at the Two Rivers Convention Center in Grand Junction.
