The Bureau of Land Management will begin trapping and removing up to 50 wild horses this week, from the Sand Wash Heard Management Area. Wild horses will be led to corrals where 50 horses will be selected and removed from the heard. Those horses will be relocated to the Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary. The BLM will also be treating mares in the heard with a fertility drug to delay fertilization. If you are traveling in the Sand Wash Basin over the next month, you may encounter temporary fencing involved in the trapping efforts. The Sand Wash Heard Management area is intended to hold 362 wild horses, currently the population exceeds 600.
