The Blair Mountain Fire burning 20 miles west of Meeker is now at 916 acres, nearly doubling in size over the last few days. The fire, which started due to a lightning strike late last month, was being managed in a way that reduces hazardous fuels and benefits the ecosystem. Fire officials were allowing the fire to burn through an area with high fuel density to limit future wildfire risk. However, due to the increased activity, the fire has now expanded outside a set perimeter where crews wanted it to stay. Fire fighters are now working actively to suppress the fire outside of that area.
