Bill To Make It Easier To Discipline VA Employees

Both Colorado Senators Bennet and Gardner voted to advance the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistle-blower Protection Act out of the Senate Tuesday. The legislation would make it easier for the Department of Veterans Affairs to discipline or fire employees who do not provide proper care to veterans. The legislation would also create an office within the VA designed to accept and evaluate whistle-blower tips. Gardner says that while the majority of VA employees are hard workers who are committed to taking care of our veterans, too many stories have come out recently about employees who are mistreating and providing inferior service to veterans. Bennet said these negative stories have made it obvious, that as a country, we can not uphold our commitment to honor our veterans without increasing accountability at the VA. Both agree that this bi-partisan legislation will help hold VA employees more accountable by allowing for them to be punished or terminated. Following the passage of the bill out of the Senate, President Trump said because we can’t tolerate substandard care for our vets the House should get the bill to his desk ASAP!
