A single engine aircraft crashed 15 miles west of Meeker last night. The Rio Blanco Communications center received a call from a person who said they heard a plane rev its engine followed by an explosion. Denver Center Air Traffic control was contacted and they reported that the aircraft had disappeared off the radar. They were also able to report the aircraft’s last location. Members of the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue conducted a search of the area, where several small items, the plane’s wing, part of the propeller and one tire were located before the search was called off for the night. The search for the remainder of the aircraft has resumed this morning. The plane was reported to be a Bonanza 35 single engine aircraft that had left Salt Lake City en-route to Granby with an unknown number of persons on board. The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to arrive in Meeker today. Pictured: The search area in Rio Blanco County. Click to enlarge. Photo: Brice Glasscock.
