The Colorado State Patrol responded to a commercial motor vehicle crash yesterday on I-70 in Eagle County. The westbound lanes of the interstate were closed for nearly three hours because of the incident. A semi-truck and box trailer was on Interstate 70 in a left curve when the trailer lost traction on the snowy road. The semi-truck jackknifed and skidded off of the side of the road, where the cab hit the guardrail. The trailer then collided with the guardrail on the opposite side of the road. The semi-truck and trailer came to a stop blocking both lanes. The driver, 20-year-old Noel Guiermond from Boynton Beach, Florida was uninjured in the crash and was issued a citation for careless driving. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but driver inexperience and speed are considered factors. The Colorado State Patrol would like to remind everyone to drive carefully and slow down this winter. Several accidents throughout the state have already been attributed to bad weather. Craig Fire Rescue responded to a non-injury accident on Highway 40 just east of Craig yesterday afternoon. It’s not clear if the weather was to blame, but snow was falling and roads were snowy and icy at the time of the accident.
