Today is the final day for Colorado residents to sign up by for insurance on Colorado’s health insurance marketplace to avoid a gap in coverage when the new year begins. This year, plans from “Colorado HealthOP” won’t be available because the cooperative is folding. That leaves some 80,000 residents without coverage or looking for a new provider. The final deadline for enrollment is January 31st. Those who don’t have coverage — either through the exchange, their employer, or other avenues — by then could face a fine of nearly $700 or 2.5 percent of their annual income, whichever is more. Those calling for assistance yesterday were sometimes waiting on hold for hours at a time, so prepare for long wait times if calling for help. On their website “Connect For Health Colorado” said that they recognize that everyone may not complete the process on time and that if you started your application online, or with a certified Broker by today they will work with you to complete that enrollment for Jan. 1 coverage.
