Before getting on your snow mobile this winter, safety considerations need to be your top priority. To help riders be responsible and stay safe, Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering a free Colorado Snowmobile Safety Class for both novice and experienced riders, this Saturday morning beginning at 10 at Steamboat Lake State Park. In Colorado, riders between the ages of 10 and 16 who wish to operate a snowmobile on public lands must take the class and earn a safety certificate or be supervised by someone who is older than 16, or by someone who is 14 or older and holds a snowmobile safety certification. Riders over the age of 16 are not required to have a safety certificate but it is strongly recommended. Portions of the class will take place outdoors so appropriate winter clothing is strongly recommended. If possible, participants should bring a registered snowmobile in working condition to take part in the optional, basic skills portion. As space is limited you should reserve your spot by calling this number 970-879-3922.
