The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the Elk River at Routt County Road 42. Recent rainfall and continuing snow melt may cause the Elk River to reach minor flood stage through early this morning and again tonight through tomorrow morning. Snow pack above the Elk River remains high and with high temperatures expected…flooding concerns will be increased for the next several days. At 12:30 pm Tuesday the river was at 6.9 feet, flood stage is at 7.5 feet. Flood stage may be reached by early this morning when lower portions of Routt County Road 42 near the Elk River Bridge will start to flood. A flood watch means that flooding is possible but not imminent in the watch area. The Yampa, White, and Little Snake Rivers are also running high and fast, but have yet to reach flood stage.
